Hentz and Key Named To IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-Regional Team
May 18, 2005 BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins senior Lacey-Leigh Hentz and sophomore Mary Key have been named to the IWCLA/US Lacrosse All-Regional Team, as announced by the All-American Committee on Wednesday, May 18. Hentz and Key earned spots on the All-South First Team and are now eligible for All-American honors, which will be announced on Sunday, May 22, in conjunction with the 2005 NCAA Championship game at the United States Naval Academy. Hentz, a four-year starter at defense for the Blue Jays, consistently marked the opponents' top scorers and helped hold Hopkins' opponents to 8.06 goals per game. She led the team in caused turnovers (29), was second in ground balls (35), finished third in draw controls (25), and moved to the midfield position to record four goals and three assists. Hentz ended her career as the all-time Division I record-holder for caused turnovers (146) at Johns Hopkins with 37 more than the next Blue Jay. A co-captain this year, Hentz also ranks among the top five in career ground balls (174) and draw controls (59).
Key, who was a second-team All-Regional pick in 2004, led the Blue Jays in goals (55), assists (32), and points (87) this year. Her 87 points set the Johns Hopkins Division I record for single-season points, eclipsing the mark of 74 points that she set last year as a rookie, while her 32 assists are also a single-season record. She finished with 49 more points than any of her teammates did this season, was second on the team in draw controls (30), and ranked third on the team in ground balls (31). Key was ranked in the top three in the nation in scoring throughout the year, recording at least three points in all but one game and leading the team in points in 14 of 17 games. She has scored in every game of her two-year collegiate career, and currently ranks second all-time in consecutive games scored (34). With two years remaining at Hopkins, Key is third in career assists (54), fourth in career points (161), and fifth in career goals (107). The All-Regional Teams include 96 athletes, 32 in each of the three regions (North, Mid-Atlantic, and South), and 16 on each the First Team and Second Team. The teams are selected by the regional committees. Click here for the full list of 2005 All-Regional selections
