The Team: The Blue Jays are 6-4 overall this season and 3-2 in the American Lacrosse Conference after defeating Northwestern, 11-7, last Tuesday and topping Richmond, 14-8, Saturday. Recapping the Week: Senior attacker Jamie Larrimore (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) and sophomore midfielder Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's) combined for 17 goals last week as the Blue Jays defeated Northwestern and Richmond. Hopkins has now won six of its last seven games after starting the season 0-3. Up Next: Hopkins hosts No. 13 Ohio State Saturday at 11 a.m. at Homewood Field. The game marks the first-ever meeting between the Blue Jays and Buckeyes, and is JHU's last conference game this season. Tucker Closing In On Anderson: Janine Tucker (Loyola '89) is currently in her ninth season as head coach of the Blue Jays. Tucker is just five wins shy of becoming the winningest coach in Hopkins history, as Sally Anderson compiled an 111-63 mark over 11 seasons prior to Tucker's arrival at Homewood. The Blue Jays have reached double-digit wins in the first eight seasons under Tucker and need four more victories to do so in 2002. Below is Hopkins' year-by-year record under Tucker. Larrimore currently has 226 points and is in fourth place on the career points list, while Erin Wellner (East Williston, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) recorded two points against Richmond to move into eighth place with 184 points. Kathryn Hart 1986-89 179Pearce Continues Scoring Streak: Heidi Pearce scored eight goals and added an assist in the Blue Jays' two wins last week, and she has now scored at least one point in all 27 games of her career. Pearce needs to score in Hopkins' last seven regular season games to break the JHU Division I record of 33 consecutive games with a point, held by teammate Erin Wellner. During her career Pearce has only been held without a goal twice, while she has recorded 14 hat tricks. McDonald Records 300th Save: After recording her 300th save against Northwestern, junior goalkeeper Jen McDonald (Garden City, NY/Garden City) stopped eight shots against Richmond and now has 308 career saves. McDonald, who has played all but six minutes this season, is now the JHU Division I career saves leader, and she is fifth place on the career saves list for all divisions. Jen McDonald 2000- 308Records Fall Against Ohio: Sophomore midfielder Heidi Pearce set a school Division I record by scoring eight goals in the 23-11 win over Ohio University on March 17. Pearce also recorded two assists, tying the JHU Division I record with 10 points. Danielle Maschuci also notched 10 points in a 16-7 win over St. Joseph's on April 28, 1999. Hopkins also set team Division I records in the victory by scoring 23 goals and taking 56 shots. Larrimore Moves Into Third Place: Senior attacker Jamie Larrimore, who has recorded 27 goals and nine assists in the last seven games, moved into fourth place on the JHU career goals list by scoring five times at Richmond. Larrimore has scored at least three goals in six of the last seven games, and she currently leads the team with 38 points. Erin Wellner 1999- 112A Tough Schedule: The Blue Jays again play a challenging schedule this season, facing eight teams ranked in this week's Brine/IWLCA poll. All four of Hopkins' losses have come to teams ranked in this week's poll, and earlier this season the Blue Jays defeated William & Mary, which was ranked No. 14 at the time of the game. Saturday Hopkins will host No. 13 Ohio State, and later this season JHU will play No. 8 Cornell, No. 9 and seven-time defending national champion Maryland, and No. 19 George Mason. Hopkins is 5-15 all-time against teams ranked in the Brine/IWLCA poll. A Helping Hand: Senior attacker Erin Wellner recorded an assist against Richmond, and currently leads the Blue Jays with 12 helpers this season. Wellner also has 72 career assists, putting her in fourth place on the school career assists list, while Jamie Larrimore is eighth with 47. Kathryn Hart 1986-89 40When She Shoots, She Scores: Senior midfielder Christy Peterson (Fallston, MD/Fallston) has scored 12 goals this season on just 23 shots for a team-leading .522 shooting percentage. Heidi Pearce (30-for-75, .400) has the second-highest percentage, followed by Jamie Larrimore (28-for-74, .378) and Meghan Burnett (10-for-27, .370). What A Difference: The Blue Jays are 6-0 this season when the Blue Jays score at least 10 goals and 0-4 when they do not reach double digits. In its six wins, Hopkins has outscored its opponents 87-45 and averaged 14.5 goals per game. However, in their six losses, the Blue Jays have been outscored 46-21 and are averaging only 5.3 goals per game. Hentz Makes Immediate Impact: It hasn't taken long for freshman defender Lacey-Leigh Hentz (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) to make her presence felt in the Hopkins backfield. Hentz leads the team in caused turnovers and turnover margin, and she has added 22 ground balls while playing all but 50 minutes so far this season. Hentz is currently third in the league and 18th in Division I with 2.4 caused turnovers a game. Hopkins In the National Stats:Entering this week, the Blue Jays were averaging 33.8 ground balls a game, which put them fourth in Division I and first in the conference. Additionally, Hopkins is ranked 22nd by allowing 9.10 goals per game and is ranked 24th by scoring 10.80 goals a game. The game is part of a Hopkins-Maryland doubleheader, as the men's game will follow at approximately 3 p.m., also to be televised by Channel 2.
