Hackensack, NJ - Senior Christina Giblin (Toronto, Canada/Phillips Exeter Academy) finished in second place in the foil to lead the Blue Jays women's fencing team at the 75th Annual NIWFA Christmas Invitational on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The event was made up Sunday after being postponed on December 7 due to a winter storm that hit the region that weekend.

Sophomore Liz Ordun (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) placed fifth in the foil, while freshman Joanna Kochaniak (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) came in 22nd. Freshman Catherine Chen (Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista) finished 26th, while freshman Samantha Wang (Fremont, CA/Lynbrook) placed 29th.
 

 

The Blue Jays were also successful in the sabre, led by sophomore Ann Kim (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) who finished fourth. Sophomore Kate Dunne (Beacon, NY/Beacon) finished right behind Kim in fifth place, while senior Georgiana Lee (Bakersfield, CA/Stockdale) placed seventh. Freshman Rachel Sussman (Lighthouse Point, FL/Spanish River) came in 12th, sophomore Julia Lawrence (Rye, NY/Rye Country Day School) was 14th, and freshman Sarah Smilow (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) finished 17th.

Sophomore Jeannette Alvarez (Pomona, NY/Immaculate Heart Academy) led Hopkins in the epee with a 10th place finish, while sophomore Cathy Gallagher (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) placed 14th and junior Caroline Grey (Tiburon, CA/San Francisco University) came in 17th.

The Blue Jays return to action this Saturday and Sunday when Hopkins competes at the North Carolina Duals in Chapel Hill, NC. Action on both days begins at 8 a.m.
