Philadelphia, PA - The Blue Jay women's novice four won its race in 7:43.1 to lead the Johns Hopkins men's and women's crew teams at the Murphy Cup on April 19.

The team of Manuella Andrade (Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais), Ellie Glifort (Chugiak, AK/Chugiak), Renee Egusa (Westport, CT/Staples), Priscilla Pang (Grand Prairie, TX/Texas Academy of Math & Science) and coxswain Payal Ghosh (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury) finished ahead of Delaware "A" in 7:48.54, St. Joseph's in 8:02.17, Franklin & Marshall in 8:04.00, Bucknell in 8:20.13, and Delaware "B" in 8:20.52.

The JHU women's varsity four of Sharon Betz (Bedford, MA/Bedford), Caitlin Hurst (Fort Collins, CO/Pouire), Meredith Clayton (St. Louis, MO/Villa Duchesne), Caroline Hookway (West Boylston, MA/Massachusetts Academy of Math & Science) and coxswain Ariel Lyons-Warren (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) finished third in the final after winning its morning heat. LaSalle won the final in 7:13.00, followed by Pittsburgh in 7:19.83, Hopkins in 7:22.75, Dowling in 7:27.70, Villanova "A" in 7:29.62, and Bucknell in 7:57.62.
 

 

The Hopkins men's novice four of David Small (Leominster, MA/Groton), Vadim Gretchouchkin (New York City, NY/Stayvesant), Peter Ryan (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion), and Michael Walsh (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI Catholic) also placed third in its afternoon final. Dowling captured the race in 7:02.96, followed by Pittsburgh in 7:06.36, Hopkins in 7:09.69, USMMA in 7:14.73, and Miami "A" in 7:23.65.

The men's varsity four of Joel Carlin (Hyde Park, VT/Lamoille Union), Sten Tullberg (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills), Derek Davies (Elma, NY/St. Joe's Collegiate Institute), Dave Crandall (Springfield, OR/Springfield) and coxswain Terry Dean (Vineland, NJ/St. Augustine) narrowly missed making the final, while two JHU men's pair teams advanced to their finals. Allen Wong (San Francisco, CA/Island School-Hong Kong) and John Cutright (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) placed fifth in 9:03.69, while Alex Forman (Denver, CO/George Washington) and Pat Mason (Milford, CT/Fairfield Prep) finished sixth in 9:08.47. Bucknell won the men's varsity pair in 8:12.11, followed by Pittsburgh in 8:25.92, Haverford in 8:52.12, and LaSalle in 8:57.57.
