Hopkins Men's Cross-Country Team Wins the Wilmington College Invitational
Sept. 23, 2006 WILMINGTON, DE - The Johns Hopkins men's cross country team led by junior Patrick Brandon (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) won the Wilmington College Invitational on Saturday morning in Wilmington, Delaware. Brandon won his second individual title of the year while the men's team captured its second title of the year.
Hopkins claimed the men's race with 22 points while West Chester University was second with 73 points, host Wilmington College was third with 102 points. Rounding out the top five were Howard Community College with 136 points and Gwynedd-Mercy College with 148 points.
Brandon completed the five-mile course in a time of 28:37.01, finishing 20 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Jason Chiang (Torrance, CA/West) finished the course in a time of 29:05.14, good enough for third place while James Bronson (Santa Ana, CA/Foothill) was fifth in a time of 29:09.18. Teammates David Sigmon (Big Harbor, WA/Peninsula) and Andrew Lewis (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) were right behind Broson, Sigmon finished 6th (29:16.51) while Lewis finished seventh (29:20.53).
Rounding out the top twenty, Hopkins had four other runners in the top twenty as Geoff Nunns (Danville, CA/Monte Vista) (30:02.74/12th), Graham Belton (Atlanta, GA/Atlanta International) (30:17.04/15th), Jason Hortiatis (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford) (30:26.14/17th) and Travis Koh (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) (30:39.42/20th) all had a strong showing for the Blue Jays.
Hopkins returns to action on October 7th when the team competes at the Disney Classic and the Goucher Invitational.
