Hopkins In Fifth Headed into Day Two of the 2006 NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team sits in fifth place after the first day of competition at the 2006 NCAA Championships. Twenty-six time defending champion Kenyon is in first with 158 points. Competition continues on Friday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
The 400 Medley Relay team, which had the fastest time in the nation coming into the championships, finished second behind Kenyon in the final event of the day. Sophomore Ryan Kim, senior Tyler Harris, senior Sean Kim and sophomore Brad Test combined for a time of 3:20.77, just over one second behind Kenyon's time of 3:19.66.
The day opened with a fourth place finish in the 200 Free Relay for the Blue Jays. Test, Harris, junior Kevin Walsh and senior Zane Hamilton combined for a time of 1:22.81. That time was their fastest of the season. Kenyon won the relay with a time of 1:21.68. In the next event, the 500 Free, junior Richard Guerard finished in seventh with his fastest time of the season, 4:35.55. His time was nearly two seconds faster than his previous best established on Dec. 3, 2005.
Competition continues on Friday with time trials in the morning for the 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and 3 Meter Diving. The Jays will have swimmers in six events but will not compete in the diving events.
