HOUSTON, TX - The Johns Hopkins men's 400 Medley Relay team won a national championship on Thursday, the first in a relay event for the Blue Jays since 1981 and sixth overall. After the first day of the 2007 NCAA Championships at the University of Houston's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium, Hopkins is in fourth place with 82 points.

Hopkins opened the day with a fifth place finish and first team All-America honors in the 200 Free Relay in 1:22.62. Junior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy), senior Kevin Walsh (Athens, GA/Cedar Shoals), freshman John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose) and junior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) swam the relay for the Blue Jays. Their preliminary time of 1:22.19 was a season-best time for Hopkins.

Test then took home first team All-America honors by finishing fifth in the 50 Free. His time of 20.48 was a career-best time. The Blue Jays wrapped up the first day of competition by winning the 400 Medley Relay in a season-best time of 3:20.21 Swimming on the relay were Thomas, Fedderly, sophomore Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) and Test.

Entering day two of the championships, Test now ranks tied for 13th all-time in Hopkins history with 15 All-America honors.
