BALTIMORE, MD - Seniors Ben McAbee (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) and Mo Hamzeh (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) along with junior Matty Carlson (Bristol, CT/Loomis Chaffee) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Men's Soccer Academic All-District II Team. McAbee was named to the first team, while Hamzeh and Carlson were named to the second team. McAbee will now go on the ballot for national Academic All-America honors.

McAbee, a 2006 All-American, is a three-time All-Centennial Conference selection. He ranks second on the team with seven assists and has scored four goals this season. McAbee led the team in scoring in 2006 as the Blue Jays advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAAs. In Hopkins career history, he ranks 16th in points (55), tied for 10th in assists (19) and tied for 19th in goals (20). McAbee has interned with both Legg Mason and Wachovia Securities and boasts a 3.24 GPA with a double major in economics and applied math & statistics.

Hamzeh has scored three goals and tallied two assists so far this season. For his career, he has totaled 10 goals and six assists for 26 points. Hamzeh boasts a 3.55 GPA with a public health major and a business minor. A research assistant at the Johns Hopkins Cancer Research Center and a volunteer in the Adolescent Department of the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Hamzeh plans to pursue a Master's degree in public health and attend medical school.

Carlson is a two-time All-Centennial honoree after earning first team honors in 2007. He has scored two goals and tallied an assist so far this season. Carlson was the Defensive MVP of the Kyle Rote Jr. Invitational and an all-tournament team member of the Citrano Medical Labs Kickoff Classic. An economics major with a 3.73 GPA, Carlson interned with Legg Mason this past spring and the Hub Group last summer.
 

 

Johns Hopkins, ranked #18 by the NSCAA and #10 by D3Kicks.com, travels to Lancaster, PA this weekend for the 2007 Centennial Conference tournament. The Blue Jays are seeking to defend their 2006 title and claim their seventh overall. Hopkins won the Centennial Conference in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006. Hopkins, the second seed, will face off against the #3 seed Muhlenberg in the second semifinal on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall.

The District II region includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Athletes named to the first team qualify for the national ballot, with the national team due to be announced on November 19. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
