BALTIMORE, MD - Junior Nick Gauna (Evanston, IL/Evanston) was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week for men's soccer Monday afternoon. This is the third time in Gauna's career that he has earned player of the week honors from the Centennial. He earned the honor twice in his freshman season.
Gauna had five points (2g, 1) as Hopkins went 2-0-0 last week. In the win over Juniata on Tuesday, Gauna scored when he intercepted a short goal kick and shot a low ball underneath the goalie. On Friday night, he assisted on junior Matty Carlson's (Bristol, CT/Loomis Chaffee) gamewinner and then scored just over seven minutes later. He has a career-high 26 points so far this season. Gauna now ranks tied for fourth in program history with 22 career assists.
The 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday evening when #17 York visits historic Homewood Field. The non-conference match is set for 7:00 pm.
