Dec. 11, 2002

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala announced today that the Blue Jays have added a 12th game to their 2003 schedule. Johns Hopkins will now host Canisius on Monday, April 14 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Game time for the JHU-Canisius game is scheduled for 5:00 pm. The Blue Jays will once again play one of the most difficult schedules in the nation and will play seven of their 12 games at Homewood Field. Hopkins' original 11-game schedule was previously announced on October 30.

Johns Hopkins will play each of the three other teams that advanced to the 2002 Final Four at Rutgers. Hopkins will open the season at 2002 national runner-up Princeton on March 1 and will play at 2002 national champion Syracuse on March 15. One week later, Hopkins will host Virginia in a prime time game scheduled for 8:00 pm on March 22. Currently, Johns Hopkins has four games which are scheduled to be televised on ABC2 in Baltimore with the Virginia game the first of the four.

In addition to the aforementioned games, the Blue Jays will continue to play North Carolina, Maryland, Navy, Towson and Loyola. The most significant change to the schedule is the addition of a home game against perennial power Duke in early April. Hopkins will not play traditional rival Hofstra as they have in recent years, but will play Penn at home on March 8. A mid-week game against Albany will kickoff the home portion of the schedule on March 4 at 5:00 pm.

Johns Hopkins posted a 12-2 record last season and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals before falling to Princeton, 11-9. The Blue Jays return eight starters and their top eight scorers from last season's team, which ended the regular season ranked number one and earned the top seed in the NCAA Tournament.
