Pietramala to be Inducted in Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame
Feb. 2, 2004
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Dave Pietramala, who is entering his fourth season as the men's lacrosse coach at Johns Hopkins University, will be inducted into the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame in ceremonies scheduled for Friday, February 6. The induction ceremony will take place at the Smithtown Sheraton Hotel on Long Island. Pietramala, who played at St. Mary's High School and is a native of Hicksville, New York, is generally regarded as one of the top defensive players in the history of the game. He was a three-time First Team All-American at Johns Hopkins and guided the Blue Jays to the 1987 NCAA Championship. He earned the William C. Schmeisser Award as the nation's outstanding defensive player in 1988 and 1989 and was the recipient of the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award as the nation's most outstanding player in 1989. Pietramala has taken his excellence on the field into the coaching ranks, where he has become the only person in the history of the game to earn National Player-of-the-Year honors and National Coach-of-the-Year honors. He has twice earned Coach-of-the-Year honors (2000 and 2002) and is one of just two people who have earned the honor at two different schools. In three seasons at Johns Hopkins Pietramala has guided the Blue Jays to a 34-8 record, two trips to the Final Four and one trip to the NCAA Championship game. Prior to being named the head coach at Johns Hopkins he led Cornell to a 23-17 record and one appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
