BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins mens' fencing team competed at the Penn State/Garret Open last weekend, with junior Ben Dorfman (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) the team's top finisher. Hopkins will next compete in the Penn Invitational on Saturday, December 1.
Dorfman placed 17th in the Foil, the second highest finish for a Division III fencer in the entire open. Junior David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) followed right behind with an 18th place finish. Sophomore Paul Nunley (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) took 34th while junior Jimmy Einsiedler (Falmouth, ME/Waynflete School) took 46th.
In the Sabre, freshman Max Wieder (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) had a solid showing, finishing 22nd. He was the top Division III fencer in that weapon. Senior Jake Sand (Laverock, PA/Germantown Friends) placed 33rd and freshman Nakul Tasker finished in 39th.
In the Epee, sophomore Harry Oppenheim (Weston, FL/University School of NSU) placed 22nd, and was also the top Division III fencer in his weapon. Freshman Nick Krywopusk (Richboro, PA/Princeton Day School (NJ)) placed 37th. Freshman Thomas Ronan (New Haven, CT/Pinkerton Academy (NH)) finished in 50th place with junior Dan Zielinski (Bernardville, NJ/¬¬Bernardville) finishing in 52nd. Junior Dane Schiro (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) claimed 60th and sophomore James Pearse (Concord, MA/Concord Carlisle) placed 62nd.
