BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins junior Rob Pietroforte (Brooklyn, NY/Berkeley Carroll) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Baseball Third Team. Pietroforte, who was a first team all-district selection earlier this month, becomes the first Blue Jay since the 2004 season to earn Academic All-America Honors.

Pietroforte earns Academic All-America honors for the first time in his career after earning all-district honors for the last two seasons. He was an ABCA Mid-Atlantic First Team All-Region selection and a First Team All-Centennial selection this year. Pietroforte hit .360 as he started all 49 games in centerfield this year. He tied the Hopkins single-season triples record with seven and needs just two more to tie the career record. Pietroforte had 14 doubles and 50 RBIs this season for the Blue Jays. Pietroforte was one of four Blue Jays to reach 100 hits for his career this season. He is a Dean's List student with a 3.70 GPA as an economics major. Pietroforte is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

The Blue Jays completed the season with a mark of 38-11, 15-3 in the Centennial Conference. Hopkins is ranked #12 in the latest ABCA poll as the team played the most games in school history and amassed the second most wins in school history. The Blue Jays won their eighth Centennial Conference Championship this year and advanced to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship before falling to Kean. Pietroforte returns next year to help lead the Blue Jays in defense of their Centennial Conference title.

To be nominated for the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
