MEADVILLE, PA - Senior Karl Sineath (West Chester, PA/Henderson) was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II College Division Baseball Team on Thursday by the District II College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Sineath also earned Academic All-District II honors last season and during his sophomore year in 1999.

Sineath, a co-captain and four-year starter for JHU at second base, boasts a 3.77 cumulative grade point average as a Psychology major. A three-time All-Centennial ('99, '01, '02) and two-time All-UAA ('98 & '99) performer, Sineath leads the team in runs scored (42) and stolen bases (18). This season he became JHU's all-time leader with 168 runs scored and 96 stolen bases for his career. Sineath is also fourth in school history with 178 career hits and tied for fourth at with 11 career triples.

To be considered for Verizon Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, must be a starter or significant reserve, and must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average.

The District II region consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Student-athletes named to the district team qualify for the national ballot, which will be announced on Tuesday, June 4.

The Blue Jays concluded the regular season with a 34-7 record and qualified for the NCAA Tournament after winning the school's fifth Centennial Conference Championship. Hopkins will participate in the NCAA Regional Championships beginning on Thursday, May 16.
