Week In Review

• Hopkins captured its eighth Centennial Conference Title over the weekend. The Blue Jays dropped their first game of the weekend to Ursinus on Friday, 6-3. The Blue Jays then rattled off four victories in 48 hours to capture the title. Hopkins defeated Franklin & Marshall 7-6 and Gettysburg 8-7 in 10 innings to earn the right to play for the title. The Blue Jays then brought out the bats and defeated the Ursinus Bears, 21-4 and 16-4.

• Junior shortstop Jonas Fester hit .560 (14-25) in the five conference tournament games. He had seven runs scored, five doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs. Senior right fielder Brett Izzo hit .500 with seven runs scored and seven RBIs. Junior Ryan Kealy came out of the bullpen to earn a win in the tournament as he threw two scoreless innings in the victory over Gettysburg. Chez Angeloni, Ryan Kuhlman and Joe Zaccaria also picked up wins on the hill for the Blue Jays.

The Week Ahead

• Hopkins has just one game this week as it visits Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays are 2-2 all-time against the Eagles since the series began in 1991. The Eagles won the first two contests while the Blue Jays have won the last two, including a 7-2 win last year.

• After facing Mary Washington on Wednesday, the Blue Jays will be off till May 16th when NCAA Regionals begin. The site, opponents and times for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional will be announced on May 14th.

Team/Individual Notes

• Senior second baseman Ian Christie had nine hits in the Centennial Conference Tournament and went over 100 hits for his career. Christie becomes the fourth Blue Jays to reach that milestone this year joining teammates Jonas Fester, Rob Sanzillo and Rob Pietroforte.

• The Blue Jays are ranked #13 in this week's ABCA Division III poll, the highest they have been ranked all season.

• Senior catcher Rob Sanzillo needs four more RBIs to reach 100 career hits, 100 career RBIs and 100 career runs scored. He would become the 13th player at Hopkins to achieve those numbers.

• Junior shortstop Jonas Fester broke the Centennial Conference and Hopkins single season doubles record this weekend. Fester has a career-high 24 doubles heading into this week's play.

• The Blue Jays as a team hit .571 during the Centennial Conference Tournament with a runner on third and less then two outs. Senior right fielder Brett Izzo was 5-for-6 (.833) in those situations.

• Junior center fielder Rob Pietroforte tied the JHU single season triples record when he knocked his seventh of the season against Gettysburg on Saturday.

• Junior right hander Ryan Kuhlman has struck out a team-best 55 batters so far this season. Of those 55 batters, Kuhlman has caught 28 of them looking.

• Hopkins has recorded 122 two-out RBIs, that is double what its opponents have been able to record. Jonas Fester leads the way with 23 two-out RBIs on the season.

• The Blue Jays are 30-3 this season when they out-hit their opponents in the game.

• Hopkins has stolen 103 bases in 121 tries this season and has five different players with at least 11 steals on the season. Rob Sanzillo has 20 swiped bags this year while Jonas Fester has 17.

• Hopkins leads the nation in double plays turned per game (1.23). The Blue Jays are second in the nation in doubles per game (2.74). Shortstop Jonas Fester is currently fourth in the nation in doubles per game (0.57).

• The Blue Jays have two senior pitchers whom opponents are batting under .200 against. Senior Brian DeLeo has held opponents to just a .193 batting average while fellow senior Jon Anderson has opponents hitting just .195.

• Junior left fielder Jon Solomon has a nine-game hit streak entering Wednesday's action. That is followed by Ian Christie's eight-game hit streak. The longest streak this season belonged to Rob Sanzillo who had a 17-game hit streak. Brett Izzo had a 15-game hit streak earlier this season and currently has a four-game hit streak.
