Senior Mike Spiciarich (Sysoset, NY/Chaminade) blasted three home runs as the Blue Jay baseball team rolled over Suffolk, 13-2. The Blue Jays improved to 3-1 with the win, and have won three games in a row.

Senior Mike Durgala (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) led off the second inning with a single, stole second and came around to score on a double by junior Gary Rosenberg (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield). Spiciarich, mired in an early-season slump, busted out, as he hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to give the Jays an early 3-0 lead.

The Blue Jays added a fourth run in the third inning, when junior Matt Scally (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) reached on an error to lead off the inning, and then advanced to third on a single from senior Paul Winterling (Glenelg, MD/McDonough). Senior Eric Nigro (Randolph, NJ/Taft) grounded into a double-play to bring in the Blue Jays' fourth run of the day. In the fourth, Spiciarich hit the second of his three homeruns, a solo shot that gave JHU a 5-0 advantage.

Hopkins exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of Suffolk's reach. The inning was highlighted by a three run home run by Spiciarich, and a solo shot from senior Paul Long (Oklahoma City, OK/Heritage Hall). Hopkins added its 13th, and final run in the sixth inning, as junior Corey Gleason (Binghamton, NY/Binhamton) doubled home Nigro.

Freshman Ryan Kuhlman (Hicksville, NY/Bethpage) was electrifying in his first collegiate start, giving up only two hits and no runs in six innings of work to pick up the win. Sophomores Ben Scott (Pittsburg, PA/Shady Side) and Dan Lewis combined to finish the game for the Blue Jays.

Spiciarich was the offensive star for the Blue Jays, going 3-for-4 with three home runs and six runs batted in. The three home runs for Spiciarich was the first three-home run game for a Blue Jay since Winterling had three against Washington College in 2003.

Durgala continued to remain hot, going 2-for-4 with a single, double, a run batted in and a stolen base. Durgala is batting .583 on the early season. Gleason also was 2-for-4 with a single, double and two runs batted in.

This is the third consecutive time JHU has defeated Suffolk, once in each of the last three seasons. Last season, Suffolk posted an impressive 29-12 record, and received votes in Collegiate Baseball's preseason poll.

Since dropping their first game of the year to Ripon, the Blue Jays have not trailed in any game, outscoring their last three opponents, 37-8. The Blue Jays will return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they take on Wheaton at 2 pm at Florida College.
