ST. PAUL'S UPSETS JCSU in VOLLEYBALL, 3-2

Ashley Young-Jones had an impressive outing in her collegiate debut

Aug. 24, 2007

In the season opener for the Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team, it was the Saint Paul's College Tigers over the host Lady Golden Bulls 3-2 (30-21, 30-26, 16-30, 26-30, 15-10). In a match that was intense for all 358 people in attendance, the Lady Golden Bulls bounced back from a 2-0 deficit to push a hard fought deciding game five. The gold and blue debuted four new faces in a collegiate uniform, and they all put on a show. Led by the efforts of Jasmine Oliver and Ashley Young-Jones, the Golden Bulls could not pull out the conference victory.

Leading the way for the victorious Lady Tigers was Whitney Lang. Lang had 14 kills, four service aces, and 14 digs in the victory.

For JCSU, Venessa Roy had 14 kills, 11 digs, two solo blocks and one assisted block. Freshmen Oliver and Young-Jones contributed 13 and 11 kills respectively.

JCSU will return to action on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 when they host Pfeiffer University. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 pm in Brayboy Gymnasium.
