Williams qualifies for NCAA regional

May13, 2007

ATLANTA, Ga. - Jackson State standout Toniece Williams achieved her personal best in the women's 400 meter hurdles this weekend at the Georgia Tech Track and Field Invitational Saturday at the Griffin Track. "When Toniece came to Jackson State we knew she had this potential," said head women's track and field coach Pauline Banks. "Her time has been dropping all season and I felt that she was a meet away from qualifying for the regional." The Lady Tigers will send four individuals, including Williams, as well as the 4 x 400 meter relay team to Columbia, Mo. for regionals. Kimberly Whalen will represent Jackson State in the 800 meter run. Jemu ZarZar (1500 meter run) and Lukina Burks (high jump) will also participate for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tiger 4x400 meter relay team is made up of Lisa Quinn, Williams, Whalen and Tayari Clay.

On the men's side Jackson State will be represented by Eric Speer in the 800 meter run and LaVarius Giles, the "Fastest Man in the SWAC", in the 100 and 200 meter dash.

The NCAA Midwest regional will be held on the University of Missouri Campus May 25-26.
