Jan. 15, 2008 BATON ROUGE, LA - LaSharee Christian hit four 3-pointers in the second half, finishing with a game high 23 points, to lead the Jackson State women's basketball team to a 58-46 win over the Southern University Lady Jaguars. Christian shot 5-15 (4-9 in 3-pointers), 9-13 from the free throw line and dished out four assists to help JSU improve to a 6-8, 4-0 record. Shaneese McLin was JSU's other double-digit scorer, with 14 points. Deidra Jackson led Southern with 18 points. The Lady Jags (4-9, 2-2) opened the game with an 11-6 lead. With 2:40 remaining in the first half Jackson State tied the score at 17-17. Southern took a 23-21 lead into halftime. In the first half poor free throw shooting and 3-point shooting hindered the Lady Tigers. In the second half Jackson State caught fire from 3-point range, making 6-14 shot attempts (42%). The Lady Tigers also shot better from the line going 15-20 (75%). Halfway through the second half Jackson State went on a 12-2 run, sparked by three Christian 3-pointers. At the 12:23 mark JSU held a 41-33 lead. For the game JSU out rebounded Southern 43-39, forced 19 turnovers, recorded 10 steals, and dished out 11 assists. Jackson State will return to action on Jan. 19 when the Lady Tigers host Prairie View A&M in SWAC action. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. |
