Jan. 5, 2008 JACKSON, Miss. - Three Lady Tigers scored in double figures to help lead Jackson State to a 66-55 win over Alabama A&M in the first SWAC game of the season Saturday night at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. With the win JSU improves to a 3-8 overall record and a 1-0 conference mark. Alabama A&M falls to a 2-8, 0-1 record. Lashonda Gains scored a team high 15 points to lead the Lady Tigers. She went 3-8 from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line. Gains also grabbed five rebounds and recored three assists for Jackson State. LaSharee Christian and Brittney Dowdy each contributed 12 points for JSU. Christian went 5-11 from the field and pulled down a game-high six rebounds and Dowdy shot 4-6 from the field and grabbed three boards. Rebekkah Barnes led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points on 6-9 shooting. In the first half Jackson State shot 47 percent from the field (10-21), while holding Alabama A&M to 33 percent (8-24). The Lady Tigers took a 34-23 lead into halftime. In the second half JSU shot 45 percent from the field (10-22) and AAMU shot 30 percent (10-33). For the game the Lady Tigers out rebounded Alabama A&M 42-28. JSU pounded the boards, pulling down 30 defensive rebounds. Jackson State will return to action Monday, Jan. 7 when the Lady Tigers host the Alabama State Hornets in SWAC action at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
