IPFW vs. North Dakota State
Fargo, ND - The Mastodons go 2-0 in the first day of the 2006 Independent Women's Volleyball Championship hosted by North Dakota State. The Mastodons defeated the Lady Broncs of Texas Pan American, 3-1 and held out in a tough match with North Dakota Stat,e 3-2.

The Mastodons dropped game one to the Lady Broncs, 26-30 but bounced back to take the next three, 30-23, 30-23, 30-18.
Rebekah Roehm led the 'Dons with 17 kills hitting at a .400 clip. She added two service aces, two digs and three block assists in the match.
Claire Jackson knocked down 14 kills, a personal career best. She hit at a .417 clip and led on the defense at the net with one block solo and five block assists.
Jessica Miller posted the highest hitting percentage for IPFW with a .440. She had 13 kills, one block solo and three block assists.
Cynara Martins had the 'Dons lone double-double for the afternoon match. She had 11 kills and 16 digs.
Jessica Dominiak posted 52 assists while Peachy Jankowski had 21 digs. Jamie Schwartz had a personal best on defense with 12 digs.
The Mastodons out-hit and out-blocked the Lady Broncs in the four game match. IPFW had a .263 hitting percentage and 12 team blocks while UTPA had a .135 hitting percentage and five team blocks.
Texas Pan American was led by Kellie Phillips with 18 kills. She added 17 digs as well. Heather Bravo hit a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs. Chelsea Blakely hit her double digits with 44 assists and 14 digs. Karen Lyons led on the defense with 24 digs.
IPFW v. North Dakota State
The Mastodons faced host North Dakota State in their evening match. After taking games one and two by finals of 30-27 and 30-26 respectively, the Bison fired back taking game three, 17-30 and game four, 25-30. Game five proved to be the toughest battle with 15 ties and seven lead changes. The 'Dons prevailed, taking game five, 21-19.
Five ladies finished with double figure kills in the five game set. Roehm led the 'Dons with 16 kills. She added three block solos and one block assist. Jackson added 11 kills and three block assists.
Amanda Pfister knocked down 13 kills at a .306 clip. Miller added 14 kills and three block assists.
Martins and Dominiak hit double-doubles again. Martins had 14 kills and 10 digs while Dominiak had 59 assists and 10 digs. Dominiak matched her personal best in assists set earlier this season against Weber State.
Nicole Howell was in the back row for IPFW, adding 16 digs and two service aces. Howell led the 'Dons in digs. Jankowski added 15 digs for IPFW while Schwartz had 13, upping her personal best from the afternoon.
For NDSU, Sheila Parrish knocked down 33 kills at a .325 clip. She added 17 digs for a double-double. Mattie Johnson posted her double-double with 82 assists and 16 digs. Kari Fagnan led all Bison in digs with 19.
The Mastodons will now wait to see who they will face at 8 PM Central (9 PM Eastern) tomorrow night in the Championship match of the Independent Tournament.
South Dakota State and Utah Valley State play tonight at 9 PM Central. SDSU and UVSC are 1-0 in the tournament thus far. The winner of this match will face IPFW in the Championship match. The loser will face North Dakota State for third place. Providence and Texas Pan American will face-off first tomorrow to decide fifth and sixth place finishes.
