2008 AVCA Men's Volleyball Preseason Poll
Lexington, KY - The IPFW men's volleyball team is ranked sixth in the nation in the preseason poll released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Coming off a 23-8 season, and the school's first ever trip to the NCAA Championship game, IPFW garnered 154 points in the poll. BYU, who finished the 2007 campaign with a record of 23-5 is ranked No. 1 with 220 overall points and four first place votes. The Cougars will make their first visit to the Hilliard Gates Sports Center on January 18. Pepperdine (9), UCLA (2), Penn State, and 2007 National Champion UC-Irvine (1) round out the preseason poll Top-5. (First place votes in parenthesis) The Mastodons return a strong lineup including two-time All-America outside hitter C.J. Macias, and preseason All-MIVA First Team selections senior middle hitter Josh Stewart and senior outside hitter Brock Ullrich. IPFW kicks off the 2008 season on January 11 at #8 Ohio State.
