Muncie, IN - The IPFW men's tennis team opened up the fall season at the Ball State Invitational this weekend.

There were multiple highlights for IPFW in the first day of the Ball State Invitational.

Nathan Jones and Justin Collins competed in the B Flight for doubles.

They defeated Samovlov/Macara of Bradley 8-6 in round one. In the second round, Jones and Collins played Wipprecht and Fox of Cleveland State, defeating them 8-6.

Jones and Collins will play in the semifinals of B Flight doubles on Saturday at 4:30 in Muncie. This is the farthest any IPFW player has made it at this event.

The doubles team of Hermann Kuschke and Tony Mitson were in C Flight.

They defeated Powers and Kutch of conference rival IUPUI 8-4 in round one. In round two they fell to EIU, 8-4.

In singles action, Diego Arteaga won his first round over Dean Guyer of IUPUI, 4-6, 7-5, 12-10. In the second round he fell in three sets to Douglass of Indiana State.

Arturo Salgado netted a consolation round win in the B Flight Singles. He defeated Josh Kutch of IUPUI in three sets.

Francisco Sigaud defeated Sean Bush of Eastern Illinois, 7-5, 6-4, in the first round of C Flight Singles. He fell to Ball State's Jimmy Brannon in the second round.

On Saturday, Jones and Collins fell in the semifinals to the team of Bayliss and Brown of Butler, 8-6.
