UIC Volleyball Makes Comeback To Clinch League Win

Youngstown, Ohio - The UIC Volleyball team (10-11, 6-0) made a colossal comeback to beat Horizon League opponent Youngstown State Friday, October 14th in a five-game decision (28-30, 24-30, 30-22, 30-22, 16-14) in Ohio. The Flames trailed the Penguins after two games, but UIC rallied and dominated the next two games to tie it up 2-2. In the fifth game, Youngstown led the Flames 13-11 until UIC scored two straight points to put the game at 13-13. YSU then knocked the ball past UIC to give the Penguins match point, but the Flames united and finished the comeback with three straight points. UIC sophomore Katarina Nedeljkovic posted a career-high 31 kills and 12 digs and junior Ambria Springer also had a career-high 26 kills on the night. Junior Maura McCarthy added 10 kills and two service aces and junior Julie Popp marked 13 digs. This win moves the Flames to 10-11 overall and 6-0 in conference action. UIC will play Cleveland State this Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 3 p.m. in Cleveland Ohio.
