Mount Pleasant, Mich. - The University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team got a taste of what's in store for them this season as they squared off with Horizon League rival, UW-Green Bay in the second match of the Central Michigan Chippewa Classic at Rose Arena on Saturday morning.

The taste was a bitter one as UWGB defeated the Flames, 30-13, 29-31, 30-27, 30-22 to remain undefeated for the tournament.

With the victory, UW-Green Bay improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Flames remain winless at 0-2.

"Our lack of execution and fundamentals is what really cost us today," UIC head coach Don August said. "Our digging and passing was not as sharp and crisp as it should have been."

Senior outside hitter Teaha Shepperd led the offensive charge for UIC totaling 18 kills for the Flames, while teammate Kristi Herrington added nine kills and six blocks.

Senior outside hitter Lindsey Filkins reached a personal milestone on Saturday morning as she notched her 1,000th career kill. Filkins finished the match with five kills.

UW-Green Bay's Janelle Tomlinson pounded 24 kills for the victorious Phoenix, while teammates Jessie Theys and Krystle Lange each chipped in 15 kills.

For the match, UW-Green Bay connected at an amazing hitting percentage of .356 (75 kills, 23 errors, 146 attacks).

UIC will conclude the tournament against the host Chippewas tonight at 6:00 p.m.
