Women's Cross Country Claims Team Win At UIC Home Opener

Ninth Annual UIC Home Opener Results in PDF Format
Palos Hills, Ill.- Led by junior Lisa Petty's second-place showing and three other top-ten finishes from the Flames, the UIC women's cross country team earned the team title at the Ninth Annual UIC Home Opener at Horsetail Lake in Palos Hills, Ill., on Saturday. Petty turned in a team-best 11:59 in the two-mile course, claiming second in the 27-woman field. Petty was a mere five seconds behind UW-Milwaukee's Megan Johnson, who completed the trek in 11:54. Susie Martinez turned in her third straight top-ten finish in the annual opener by running the two miles in 12:22, taking fourth. Freshman Danyelle Somerfield turned in an impressive debut, claimiing fifth just behind Martinez with a 12:23. Sophomore Kerry Brennan was strong inrunning a ninth-place 12:37. Renee Koziol rounded out the UIC performances with a 13:05, taking a strong 14th. The Flames captured the team title above second-place UW-Green Bay, followed by third-place UW-Milwaukee and fourth-place Chicago State.
