Glen Ellyn, IL- The UIC Women's Tennis team kicked off their fall season against local schools at the DePaul Invitational this past weekend, held at the College of Dupage.

Newcomer Ilinca Cristescu advanced to the semi-finals of the A singles flight, falling to eventual champion Katarina Milinkovic of Depaul. Cristescu rebounded the following day, claiming third place over Kirsten Gambrell of DePaul (6-2, 7-6).

Sophomore Amy Jellish won her way into the B singles championships after matches against Yana Meinert of Western Illinois and Kathryn Friedlund of Northern Illinois. She fell in a hard fought battle against Anja Mihaldinec of DePaul in the championship match 6-0, 6-2, 1-0.

Sophomore Jenna Reisch claimed the C singles over over Stephanie Baumer of Western Illinois (6-3, 6-4), Dora Delgadillo of Northern Illinois (6-3, 6-3) in the semi-finals and Courtney Brooks of Western Illinois in the championship match, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, senior Grace Gill-Morlis teamed up with Cristescu to advance all the way to the finals of the A doubles bracket, where they met up against Kirsten Gambrell and Katarina Milinkovic of Depaul, losing in a score of 8-3.

The pair of Jamie Reisch and Amy Jellish took the B doubles title over Kathryn Friedlund and Stephanie Okuna of Northern Illinois in a close match (9-7).

The Flames take to the courts next at The University of Michigan for the I.T.A. Midwest Regional Championships October 18-23.
