Chicago, Ill.-With the start of the 2007-2008 swimming and diving season right around the corner, UIC head coach Paul Moniak announced that seniors Jason Dews, Dan Hare, Rachel Funk and Andrea Giczewski along with Junior Tristan Oleynik will guide the team as this years core of captains.

Dews and Hare will captain the men's swimming team, while Funk and Giczewski will lead the women's team. Oleynik will take charge of the diving crew.

"We feel these veteran athletes will be valuable in leading a young squad," said Monaik.

Dews returns as the team's top butterfly specialist and Hare led the 2006-07 team in the breaststroke.

Funk is one of the team's fastest long distance specialists, while Giczewski is the fastest returnee in the Horizon League in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

Oleynik returns after finishing in the top ten in last years one-meter conference competition.

UIC kicks off the season on Saturday, October 13th at Eastern Illinois in Charleston.
