Indianapolis, Ind. - Matching a career-high 31 points, senior LaShonda Grant guided the UIC women's basketball team to its sixth straight victory over Butler on Thursday night, 70-64. Grant shot 66 percent from the field (10-for-15), 57.1 percent from beyond the arc (4-for-7) and was 7-for-8 from the line.

Senior Jacquay Holmes notched 11 points and freshman Cassie Johnson led UIC at the boards with eight rebounds. Senior Kelly True tied her career-high with two blocks against the Bulldogs.

Recording a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds, sophomore Lade Akande paced the Bulldogs on the both ends of the court. Sophomore Tara Miller and senior Ellen Hamilton each totaled ten points. Senior Jackie Closser added 11 points, hitting all three treys on the night.

The Flames wasted no time, sparking a 12-4 run to kick off the first half. The Bulldogs got within one point (14-13) at the 12:14 mark, but the Flames continued to dominate offensively.

Butler connected with only 9-of-33 (.273) from the field in the first 20 minutes of play, while UIC shot 51.7 percent (15-for-29) from the field to lead 36-27 at the half.

UIC extended its lead in the first eight minutes of the second half with a 14-point lead (52-38), but Butler answered with a 9-2 run.

Despite BU's late push in the final minutes of regulation to get within four points, UIC held on for the 70-64 victory. The Flames move to 8-9 overall and 2-3 in league play.

UIC heads to Dayton, Ohio for a matchup against Wright State on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 12:00 p.m. CST.
