Indianapolis, Ind. - The UIC men's track and field team finds itself in first place heading into the final day of competition at the 2007 Horizon League Championships after a Thursday afternoon that saw the Flames claim four individual event titles. The women's team is also on pace for a top-tier finish, sitting in fourth place, just points behind Detroit for third.

Junior Terell Williams led the way for UIC on day one at the league championships. Having already defended his title in the decathlon, Williams took the crown in the javelin with a toss of 52.36m while also placing third in the pole vault by clearing the bar at 4.45m.

The javelin and the pole vault were both successful events for the Flames. Mike Savegnago won the league pole vault title with a mark of 4.60m. UIC, meanwhile, went one-two-three in the javelin as Scott Pauga (2nd/51.21m) and Nick Karavolos (3rd/49.97) joined Williams on the podium.

The last title won by the men's team on Thursday went to Jim Sulzberger in the 10,000-meter race. Sulzberger crossed the line in 32:18.57 to take home his first league crown.

The women's squad was paced by top three finishes from Lisa Petty and Lauren Fogarty. Petty took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while Fogarty placed third in the long jump (5.33m).
