Yellow Springs, Ohio- Led by sophomore Joseph Mbari's ninth-place finish and a total of five Top 25 finishes, the University of Illinois at Chicago men's cross country team placed third at the 2005 Horizon League Cross Country Championships.

The third-place league showing was the best finish by the UIC men's cross country team since they placed third in 1999. It also marked a two-place jump from their fifth-place finish from last season.

UIC finished only behind league champion Butler and Loyola.

Mbari turned in the second team-leading performance of his career by running a career-best 24:58 in the men's 8,000-meter race. The time marked his first sub-25 minute finish in an 8K race while at UIC.

Senior Mikhail Davidyan chose the right time to turn in his career-best cross country performance, running a personal cross country best 25:05 to place 13th.

Both Mbari and Davidyan took home All-Horizon League Second Team honors for placing among the Top 14 finishers. They became the first Flames to earn All-League recognition since Danny Smith in 2002.

A slew of Flames also turned in their best Horizon League showings ever. Juniors Jim Sulzberger and Sam Watson finished the course in 25:25, with Sulzberger credited with an 18th place finish while Watson was credited with 20th place points.

Rounding out the Top 25 for UIC was sophomore Jorge Flores, who ran a 26:08 to finish 25th.

Senior Bob Dron ran a 26:21 to place 30th, with freshman Alex Sutphen not far behind with a 26:40 to take 38th.

Graham Waller (27:39/59th), Tom Schutzius (27:41/60th) and Thomas Chin (28:58/68th) rounded out the third-place Flames' stellar day.
