Sulzberger, Watson Pace Cross Country To Fifth At Bradley Classic

Peoria, Ill.- Top 15 finishes from juniors Jim Sulzberger and Sam Watson helped the UIC cross country team place fifth at the Bradley Classic at Newman Golf Course on Friday evening. The Flames placed a solid fifth out of a tough field of 12 teams, thanks to the back-to-back finish of Sulzberger and Watson near the top of the individual standings. Sulzberger led the team with a 25:43.48 in the 8,000-meter event to place 12th, while Watson took 13th with a time of 25:45.29. Rookie Alex Sutphen was the third-best finisher on the night, running a 26:36.13 to place 34th. Jorge Flores ran the course in 27:11.92, while Bob Dron ran the event in 27:17.46. Graham Waller turned in a 28:18.60, followed by Tom Schutzius' 29:19.00 and Thomas Chin's 29:44.00. The University of Windsor won the event, followed by Missouri, Central Michigan, Drake, and UIC. The Flames eclipsed Horizon League rival UW-Green Bay (11th) and local rivals Bradley (6th), Western Illinois (8th), Illinois State (9th) and DePaul (12th) in the team standings. UIC prepares for the Horizon League Cross Country Championships in Yellow Springs, Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 29th beginning at 10:00 a.m.
