Champaign, Ill. - Gabriel Ngwiri made his UIC debut an impressive one as he and teammate Sam Watson finished the 8K U of I Arboretum course with identical times of 26:02 to lead the men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Illini Challenge on Friday evening. The Flames finished with a team total of 63 points, placing behind host Illinois (15). Illinois State was third with 69 points, followed by UW-Milwaukee (94). Ngwiri and Watson, who placed eighth and ninth respectively, were aided by top 20 finishes by Joseph Mbari (13th/26:22), Alex Sutphen (16th/26:38) and Nic Aubert (20th/27:11). UIC will be back in action on September 30 when they head up Lake Shore Drive to compete in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola.
