Indianapolis, Ind. - University of Illinois at Chicago freshman field specialist Terell Williams tallied half of the men's track and field squad's points, as the Flames ended the opening day of competition at the 2005 Horizon League Outdoor Championships in third place at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Williams placed third overall in the pole vault with a mark of 4.15 meters, followed by a fourth-place mark in the javelin (48.06) and a sixth-place finish in the long jump (6.47).

UW-Milwaukee is leading the way with 86 points followed by Loyola (38), UIC (22), Youngstown State (16), Butler (12) and Detroit (11).

Junior Pat Redden earned a second-place finish in the hammer throw (48.01), followed by Ryan Fleischhacker (5th, 42.85 meters) and Don Sica (6th, 40.90 meters).

In preliminary action, junior sprinter Brandon Cook advanced to the finals in both the 100-meter dash (2nd, 11.41) and the 200-meter dash (1st, 22.08). Junior transfer Marcus Lesley qualified for both the 100-meter dash (3rd, 11.47) and the 200-meter dash (9th, 23.21), while teammate Trent Thompson advanced to the finals of the 200-meter dash (2nd, 22.14).

Junior transfer Will Reeves rounded out the qualifiers for the Flames with a 7th-place mark of 58.43 in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles.
 

 

The final day of championship competition will begin at 4:00 PM on Friday afternoon at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
