Naperville, Ill. - The UIC men's and women's track and field team opened the 2007 outdoor season over the weekend at the Chicagoland Championships hosted by North Central College.

Freshman Kristen McMurray gave the women's team a trio of top 10 finishes at the event while junior Terell Williams highlighted the men's squad's efforts with a second place finish in the decathlon.

McMurray, a throws specialist, was impressive in her outdoor debut. The Lisle, Ill., native placed fifth in the shot put (11.59m), sixth in the discus (35.02m) and eighth in the hammer throw (38.14m).

Senior Sarah Morrison was also strong in the field events for the UIC women's team. She gave the Flames their highest individual event standing with a second place finish in the long jump (4.86m) while also taking fifth in the triple jump (10.04m).

Seniors Jessica Cwiak (3rd/high jump/1.42m) and Lisa Petty (5th/3,000-meter steeplechase/12:25.10) record top five finishes for the women's team.

Williams added to his second place finish in the decathlon for the men's team by placing eighth in both the pole vault (4.28m) and javelin (46.12m).
