Chicago, Ill.- Following a 2005 season of outstanding success on the courts, three UIC men's tennis players were honored for their scholastic achievements on Tuesday at the annual Academic Awards Banquet hosted by the University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Two-time All-Horizon League Second Team selection Paul Glendenning was recognized for his classroom excellence as the men's tennis team's leader in grade point average. Glendenning led the team with a stellar 3.76 G.P.A. on a 4.0 scale as a major in finance.

Two other Flames players were the recipients of prestigious merit scholarships. Senior captain James Wonneberg earned the Aileen S. Andrew Scholarship, while newcomer Danai Samuriwo was awarded the Avery Brundage Scholarship.

The UIC men's tennis team is coming off a spectacular season in which the Flames posted the most dual match wins in 22 years, rounding out the year with a 14-8 record, while finishing in second place in the Horizon League for only the second time in school history.
