East Lansing, Mich.- The UIC men's tennis team finished out fall play over the weekend, rounding out action at the ITA Midwest Regionals on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Karol Zarucki and sophomore Yevgen Ryeznik teamed up for a doubles contest against Michigan State's Cameron Marshall and Eric Simonton. With some help from their home-court advantage, the Spartans' duo knocked off Zarucki and Ryeznik in the first round match, 8-3.

Although the Flames went 0-2 in tournament singles qualifying play and lost their only doubles match of the weekend, the UIC men put up tremendous efforts in a jam-packed field of the Midwest's best. Zarucki, Ryeznik, and Paul Glendenning were the UIC players selected to compete in the prestigious event.

Besides his doubles match with Ryeznik, Zarucki played a qualifying singles match against Michael Heule of Ball State, losing a tough 6-1, 7-5 bout to the fourth-seeded Heule. Glendenning dropped his only match of the tournament, a qualifying battle against Valparaiso's Nick Kooyers, 6-3, 6-4.

UIC rounded out the fall season 1-0 in dual meet play, winning their lone contest handily against Chicago State on October 8th.

The Flames return to action for the spring leg of the season on January 16, 2004, at DePaul. Matches begin at 6 p.m.
