Chicago, Ill.- After a record-setting performance at the U.S. Open this past weekend, UIC junior swimmer Blake Booher (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) was named Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week for the period ending Dec. 6th.

Booher met a U.S. National qualifying time standard with a 50-meter freestyle time of 23.70, converted to a 20.48 as a 50-yard time that broke his own school record in the event.

The third-year sprint-freestyler placed 11th overall and third in the `B' finals for the 50 free event.

Booher also posted a 46.70 in the 100 freestyle and guided the 4x100-meter freestyle relay team to a seventh-place finish in the finals, just two spot behind defending NCAA champion Auburn.

The UIC men's swimming and diving team placed eighth out of 44 of the world's finest teams at the U.S. Open.

With their winter training trip in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on the horizon next week, the Flames return to dual meet action on Jan. 6th with a home contest against Valparaiso.
