Chicago, Ill.- University of Illinois at Chicago freshman Mike Horwitz was named the Horizon League Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the period ending November 23rd, the league announced on Tuesday.

Horwitz, a native of Naperville, Ill., turned in an outstanding performance this past Saturday, sweeping the one-meter and three-meter boards against Western Illinois and Saint Louis. His score of 244.45 for the one-meter event edged out fellow freshman and teammate Mark Pappalardo, and his three-meter tally of 258.65 gave him the second win to propel the UIC men's squad to a 2-0 dual meet record on the day.

The freshman has been steady throughout the beginning of this season, accumulating four individual victories. Horwitz has yet to finish below fifth in an event in 2003.

Horwitz and the men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to compeition in January. The women host Illinois State at the UIC Natatorium on Friday, January 16th at 7 p.m., while the men travel to Evanston, Ill., to battle Northwestern and Eastern Michigan on Saturday, January 17th at 2 p.m.
