Aug. 29, 2007

Chicago, Ill.- The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) unveiled its lists of Men's And Women's Division I Academic All-American Teams for the Spring 2007 semester on Wednesday (Aug. 29th), and the UIC men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued to cement their places in the annual rankings of academic excellence.

On the women's side the Flames posted a team grade point average of 3.210 on a 4.0 scale. The UIC men's squad earned its spot with a 2.980 team GPA.

This marks the ninth time that the UIC swimming and diving program has earned the prestigious designation in six seasons under head coach Paul Moniak.

Programs that produce a team grade point average of 2.8 or better on a 4.0 scale are eligible for the CSCAA Academic All-American Team designation.

Last year was a banner campaign in the classroom for Moniak's student-athletes. Six members of the UIC swimming and diving program earned Academic All-Horizon League honors, while the teams totaled eight Horizon League Fall 2006 Academic Honor Roll recipients and 11 Horizon League Spring 2007 Academic Honor Roll students.

Along with the program's pride in its classroom work, UIC swimming and diving had another strong season in the pool after accumulating six Horizon League event titles, setting two Horizon League records and featuring the Horizon League Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year in Blake Booher.
