Chicago, Ill. - The University of Illinois at Chicago had 10 student-athletes earn Academic All-Horizon League honors on Tuesday, as the league office announced its winter sport recipients.

Men's swimming and diving led the way for the Flames with five representatives on the Academic All-League squad.

Senior Bill Hare (3.64, Biology), junior Mike Conroy (3.50, Business), junior Blake Booher (3.42, Political Science), junior Mark Pappalardo (3.43, Secondary Education/Math) and senior LeRoy Stevens (3.71, Photography) all made repeat showings on the Academic All-League team with Hare making the squad for the third consecutive season.

Women's swimming and diving had three first-time honorees with sophomore Miranda Ambuske (3.86, Psychology), sophomore Colleen Dougherty (3.86, Psychology) and senior Laura Martensen (3.34, English Education) earning a spot on the squad for the Flames.

Senior Sara O'Mara (4.00, Pre-Elementary Education) and junior Lisa Petty (3.67, History Teacher Education) represented UIC on the women's indoor track and field Academic All-League team.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with Academic All-League teams in each of its 19 championship sports.

To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point-average of 3.25 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits. Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives then vote from the pool of eligible participants in each sport to comprise the Academic All-League squad.
