Oxford, Ohio - The UIC swimming and diving team traveled down to southern Ohio for the Miami Invitational over the weekend, and the whole team proved to be up for the strong competition from the field composed of league rivals and top competition from across the country.

The men's squad placed 11th in a 13-team field with 536.5 points. The Flames finished ahead of Milwaukee (106), Trinity (78) and Carnegie Mellon (30). Denison University won the invitational with 1512 points to Oakland University's runner-up finish of 1454.5.

The Flames started the invitational off on the right foot with a pair of eighth-place finishes in the freestyle relay events.

The underclassmen quartet of Brenden Dougherty, Steve Yemm, Andrew Schmitt and Evan Dunn completed the 800 free relay Thursday evening in 6:58.81. The following morning, Cameron Seebeck, Dougherty, Brian Anderson and Mark Kalafut finished the 200 free in 1:25.55.

Freshman Evan Dunn continues to have a stellar freshman campaign with a number of top finishes in his specialty events. The Edmond, Oklahoma native placed sixth in the 200 fly in a season-best 1:52.56.

Dunn also placed second in the B final of the 400 IM in 4:06.36 and 14th overall in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:10.58. He capped off the competition with a 1:56.28 200 IM effort in the preliminary heat.

Other top freshman efforts came from Andrew Schmitt, with an 11th-place finish in the 200 fly (1:53.14), Steve Yemm's 50.78 effort in the 100 fly, good for 11th-place, and Brian Anderson's 47.95 100 free time.

Sophomore Cameron Seebeck led the Flames in the 50 free, finishing 13th overall with a team-best 21.30 effort. Fellow sophomore Brenden Dougherty came in 23th in 21.70.
