Muncie, Ind.- 2004 has not been too kind to the UIC men's and women's swimming and diving teams.

After racing out to a fabulous start last November, both Flames squads continue to search for their first team win of the new year after dropping their dual meets against Ball State at the Lewellen Aquatic Center on Friday night.

The UIC men were downed 145-95, while the women lost a 164-69 decision to the Cardinals.

The meet was not without its individual highlights. For the men, freshman Blake Booher won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.35, while senior Enric Claret scored victories in the 200-yard IM (1:57.45) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.39).

For the ladies, Laura Martensen won the 1000-yard freestyle in dominating fashion with a time of 10:50.64, beating her next closest competitor by over ten seconds.

Freshman Kelly Hyatt continued her excellent rookie campaign with a win in the 50-yard freestyle, taking the event in 25.35.

UIC will be back in action next Saturday, February 7th for its final regular season contest, a home battle against Valparaiso and Horizon League rival Cleveland State beginning at 1 p.m. at the UIC Natatorium.
