One Final Tune-Up For Gymnastics Squads At Alumni Meet
Jan. 6, 2002
Chicago, Ill. - The 2002 version of the UIC gymnastics Alumni Meet had a bit of variation this season, there were girls competing. As the men competed, the UIC women's tumbling squad joined in an exhibition of their own. The men used judges, while the women did not score the meet. The men's squad competed well in preparation for next weekend's Windy City Invitational, where five of the nation's top ten teams will compete along with the No. 15 ranked Flames. Senior Anthony Cirullo looks to be in great shape headed into the regular season, as the Glenwood, Ill. native captured the vault (9.10) and floor exercise (8.60) titles. David Livingston continued his strong preseason, grabbing top honors on the pommel horse (8.75) and tying for the win on the rings (7.80). He also won the high bar event with a 7.50 tally. Equaling Livingston on the rings was Brian Vauter, while Keith Kerrigan equaled Matt Musielak for the parallel bars win (8.20). The men put together a final team score of 193.750. The 32nd edition of the Windy City Invitational is Saturday, Jan. 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the UIC Physical Education Building. Peter Jansson's women's squad used Sunday's exhibition to prepare for their season opener this weekend at Auburn. The ladies will face off against the host Tigers, Illinois and Centenary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night. |
