Men's Basketball Makes It Two-In-A-Row With Win Over UW-Green Bay
Jan. 28, 2006 Chicago, Ill. - Senior Justin Bowen tabbed his seventh double-double of the season with a career-high tying 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the UIC men's basketball team to a 81-68 victory over UW-Green Bay on Saturday afternoon at the Pavilion. The Flames have now posted back-to-back wins to move to 10-11 on the season and 3-6 in Horizon League play. The Phoenix falls to 10-11, 4-5 in league action with the loss. UIC used a strong all-around team effort to earn the victory over UW-Green Bay. Five players scored in double figures, the Flames committed a season-low six turnovers and out-rebounded the Phoenix, 40-32, including 19 offensive rebounds. Junior Jovan Stefanov epitomized the strong all-around game UIC played on Saturday, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds and six assists. Bowen and Stefanov were joined by junior Danijel Zoric (12 points, 6 rebounds), sophomore Kevin Bond (11 points) and freshman Josh Mayo (11 points) as double-figure scorers. Sophomore Othyus Jeffers paced the Flames on the glass with 12 rebounds while also adding five assists without a turnover. Mike Schachtner and Ryan Werch each scored 17 points to lead UW-Green Bay. UIC jumped out early on the Phoenix, taking control of the game with a 16-0 run that staked the Flames to a 24-6 lead at the 9:21 mark. The Flames led by 17 at half (39-22) and by as many as 21 in the second stanza. UW-Green Bay would get as close as eight late in the second half, sparked by 17 points in the period from Werch, but it was not enough as UIC prevailed, 81-68. The Flames will look for their third straight win on Monday night when they play host to Butler at 7:00 p.m.
