Stanford Hosts Baseball Regional Chicago, Ill. - The UIC baseball team will take on Stanford in the opening round of the NCAA Regional championships in Palo Alto Calif., on Friday, May 30th, it was announced this afternoon as the Field-of-64 for the 'Road to Omaha' was revealed. The game will take place at the Cardinal's Sunken Stadium on Friday at either 4:00 p.m., or 8:00 p.m. (CST). The double-elimination event runs through Sunday, June 1st. UIC, which is the only school in the state of Illinois to qualify for the postseason, is the #4 seed in the four-team regional with Stanford taking top seed honors, while also earning one of the coveted eight national seeds (#6). Third-seeded UC-Riverside (40-15) and #2 Richmond (46-13) round out the Palo Alto regional. The winner of this double-elimination event moves on to the Super Regionals, meeting the victor of the Long Beach State regional in a best-of-three series. The Flames (39-16) are making their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance after claiming both the Horizon League regular-season and tournament titles.
Stanford, which won the Pac-10 title this season, enters with a record of 41-15 and is vying for its fifth-straight trip to the College World Series.
