May 23, 2005 Chicago, Ill. - The University of Illinois at Chicago baseball squad captured its fourth-straight Horizon League regular-season title over the weekend without one swing of the bat. UIC (35-18-1, 14-6), winners of their last nine Horizon League contests, was on their bye week in Horizon League play and anxiously awaited the outcome of the UW-Milwaukee/Youngstown State four-game series. In order for the Flames to win the Horizon League regular-season championship outright, Youngstown State (28-25, 10-6) needed to win the series over the Panthers (22-29, 12-8). The Penguins complied, taking three of four from UW-Milwaukee, securing second-place and clinching the regular-season title for the Flames. With the No. 1 seed in the tourney, UIC receives a bye in the opening round of the tournament and will begin play on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. (CST) at Victory Field, home of the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians. The Flames will play the lowest winning seed of the opening two games of the tournament on Wednesday. The first game is between No. 4 Wright State and No. 5 Cleveland State, while the second contest features No. 3 UW-Milwaukee and No. 6 Butler. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic berth into the 64-team, NCAA Regional Championships.
