Zach Peterson Named Horizon League Pitcher Of The Week
May 22, 2006 Chicago, Ill.- For the fourth time this season junior right-hander Zach Peterson (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka H.S.) was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, earning the nod for the period ending May 22nd. Peterson handcuffed Wright State in his start this past Friday, allowing just two earned runs and fanning six Raider hitters in seven innings en route to winning his fifth straight decision. The third-year hurler improved to 8-3 on the year, tied for the most wins in the Horizon League, and is the league's sole leader in ERA (2.10), strikeouts (66) and innings pitched (98.2). Peterson has been named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week on three other occasions this season, winning the award on March 7th, March 28th and April 24th. He is the only pitcher in the league to win the weekly honor four times. The honor marks the fifth time a UIC pitcher has been named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week and the ninth time a Flames player has earned weekly league recognition. UIC begins defense of the Horizon League Baseball Championship this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. EDT/6:00 p.m. CDT at Wright State's Nischwitz Stadium in Fairborn, Ohio.
