Chicago, Ill.- UIC junior right-hander Ryan Zink (Madison, Wis./La Follette H.S.) was named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week for the period ending May 6, the league office announced on Monday.

Zink continued his mastery over Youngstown State this past Saturday with a seven-inning gem in the nightcap of a doubleheader between the Flames and the Penguins. He allowed just two hits and faced just one batter over the minimum during his outing, retiring the side in order four times to guide UIC to a 6-0 road win.

Zink is now 4-2 on the year in his first season back from surgery to his throwing arm. The righty improved to 4-0 all-time against Youngstown State.

The award was the third career Horizon League Pitcher of the Week honor for Zink and first since May 16, 2005. It was also the fourth consecutive week that a UIC player was honored by the Horizon League, with Larry Gempp Jr. (April 30th), Steve Crnkovich (April 23rd) and Micky Pingree (April 16th) earning Player or Pitcher of the Week accolades.

UIC takes on Northwestern in Evanston on Tuesday afternoon.
