Baseball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader With 6-1 Win Over Cleveland State
April 29, 2006
Chicago, Ill.- The UIC baseball team had to wait through a rain delay that neared the two-hour mark, but the patience paid off as the Flames downed Cleveland State by a 6-1 count to sweep Saturday's doubleheader at Les Miller Field. UIC (24-15, 16-4 Horizon League) broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth with two RBI singles by Ben Trotter and Nick Rainwater. The Flames escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth when Adam Worthington induced Mike Babin into a ground-ball double-play to end the frame unscathed. The Flames then tacked on three runs of insurance in their half of the eighth, highlighted by Bart Babineaux's two-run single. Jason Foster earned his second win of the season with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, while Worthington pitched the final two frames to earn his fifth save. Rainwater finished the game 3-for-3 at the dish with two RBI and a run scored. Trotter completed the twinbill 5-for-9 at the plate with five RBI. Cleveland State fell to 8-29 on the year and 6-14 in Horizon League play. The Flames have won all six three-game conference series they have played so far this season. UIC completes its three-game series against Cleveland State at Les Miller Field on Sunday at noon.
